Sophie and the Safari Forest Challenge
It was a beautiful morning in Safari Forest, and Sophie was bursting with excitement!
Ms. Rose had planned a special team challenge. The Kingdom Kids would follow a trail of clues, complete three activities, and reach the big tree before lunchtime.
“Everybody ready?” Sophie shouted, bouncing on her paws.
“READY!” her friends answered.
“Then follow me!” Sophie declared. “Team Sophie is going to WIN!”
Timmy chuckled. “Wait! I thought we were all on the same team!”
“We are!” Sophie grinned. “And I'm the captain!”
The first challenge was easy. The friends had to find five brightly colored leaves.
Sophie raced ahead, spotted the leaves, and gathered them before anyone else could help.
“DONE!” she announced.
At the second challenge, the friends had to build a small tower using wooden blocks.
“I've got this!” Sophie said, stacking the blocks as fast as she could.
But when Timmy tried to help, Sophie waved her paw.
“No, Timmy! Put that one over here! Hurry!”
Timmy stepped back quietly.
Sophie didn't notice. She was already thinking about the next challenge.
When they reached the final station, Ms. Rose handed them a basket filled with colorful ribbons.
“Your last challenge,” she explained, “is to work together to decorate this little tree.”
Sophie grabbed a ribbon.
“I'll do the top! Ian, you do the bottom! Timmy, just hand me the ribbons!”
But this time, Timmy didn't move.
“Timmy?” Sophie asked.
“I wanted to help decorate too,” he said softly. “But you keep doing everything.”
Sophie looked at her friend.
For the first time that morning, she noticed that Timmy wasn't smiling.
Ms. Rose walked over.
“Sophie, you have wonderful energy, and God has given you the ability to lead. But let me ask you something. What else has God given you?”
Sophie thought for a moment.
“Power, love, and a sound mind!”
“That's right!” Ms. Rose replied. “And how can you use the love God has given you when you're leading your friends?”
Sophie looked at Timmy.
“I can listen to them,” she answered slowly. “And make sure everyone gets a turn.”
Ms. Rose smiled. “Exactly. Love helps us think about others, not just what we want to accomplish.”
Sophie turned toward her friends.
“Timmy, I'm sorry I didn't give you a chance to help. Would you like to decorate the top of the tree?”
Timmy's trunk lifted.
“REALLY?”
“Really!” Sophie laughed. “And Ian, you can choose where the blue ribbons go!”
Ian stretched his long neck.
“Excellent! I have several very important decorating calculations!”
Sophie giggled. “Oh, here we go again!”
Soon, everyone was laughing, sharing ideas, and decorating together.
When they finished, the little tree looked beautiful.
Sophie stepped back to admire their work.
“You know what?” she said. “This turned out better than anything I could have done by myself!”
Ms. Rose smiled.
“That's what happens when we allow the love of Christ to guide how we treat one another.”
Sophie grinned.
“Then I have a new team rule!”
Everyone looked at her.
“Everybody gets to shine!”
Timmy raised his trunk. “Now THAT'S a great captain!”
And Sophie learned something wonderful that day.
God had already given her love. She could use that love to encourage others, make room for her friends, and lead in a way that reflected Jesus!
