Timmy and the Trail of Little Footprints
It was a bright Monday morning in Safari Forest, and Timmy was ready for an adventure!
Ms. Rose had invited the Kingdom Kids to explore a brand-new nature trail. Timmy arrived first, swinging his trunk happily.
“Good morning, Ms. Rose! I brought my explorer hat, my water bottle, and three bananas!”
Ms. Rose smiled. “Three bananas, Timmy?”
“One for breakfast, one for a snack, and one for emergencies!”
Just then, Sophie came bouncing down the path. “EMERGENCIES? Timmy, what kind of emergency needs a banana?”
“A hungry elephant emergency!” Timmy declared. Everyone burst into laughter.
Soon, Ian and Bleu joined them, and Ms. Rose gathered the friends beside a wooden sign. The sign read: THE LITTLE FOOTPRINT TRAIL. Beneath it was a picture of a tiny golden footprint.
“Today,” Ms. Rose explained, “we’re going to follow these little golden footprints to a beautiful place in Safari Forest.”
Timmy looked down the trail. He could see the first golden footprint painted on a smooth stone. But after that, the trail curved behind a group of tall trees.
“Ms. Rose,” Timmy asked, “where does the trail go?”
“To a special surprise,” she answered.
Timmy stretched his trunk as high as he could. “Can I see it from here?”
“Not yet,” Ms. Rose replied.
Timmy stood on his tiptoes. Still nothing. He climbed onto a small, sturdy rock beside the trail. Nope! He even stretched his trunk toward the treetops.
Sophie giggled. “Timmy, you’re going to stretch that trunk all the way to tomorrow!”
Timmy climbed down. “But how can I follow the trail if I can’t see where it ends?”
Ms. Rose smiled. “That’s a wonderful question, Timmy.” She opened her Bible. “Today we’re learning something important from 2 Corinthians 5:7.” She read: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Timmy tilted his head. “Does that mean I should close my eyes while I walk?”
“Absolutely not!” Ms. Rose laughed. “God has given us eyes to see, minds to think, and wisdom to use. Walking by faith doesn’t mean ignoring what we can see or being careless.”
Ian nodded. “Good! Because walking with our eyes closed through a forest would not be a wise scientific decision!”
“Exactly, Ian,” Ms. Rose said. “Walking by faith means trusting God and His Word, even when we don’t know everything that’s ahead.”
Timmy looked at the first golden footprint. “So I don’t have to see the whole trail before I take the first step?”
“That’s right,” Ms. Rose answered. “We can follow the directions we have and take the next wise step.”
Timmy smiled. “Then let’s go!” He stepped onto the first golden footprint. A little farther down the path, he spotted another. “There’s one!” Then another! “And another!”
The Kingdom Kids followed the footprints through the trees. But soon they reached a place where the trail divided into two paths.
Timmy stopped. “Uh-oh! Which way do we go?”
Sophie pointed to the left. “That one looks exciting!”
Ian studied the ground. “Wait! We should look for the next footprint.”
Bleu fluttered above a nearby flower. “Here it is!” Beside the right-hand path was another golden footprint.
Timmy grinned. “Good thing we didn’t just guess!”
Ms. Rose nodded. “That’s right. Faith doesn’t mean making up our own directions. We learn to follow God’s Word and use the wisdom He has given us.”
The friends continued along the trail. Soon, Timmy noticed something sparkling through the trees. “LOOK! I SEE SOMETHING!”
He hurried forward—then remembered Ms. Rose’s instructions to stay together. He slowed down and waited for his friends.
At last, the trail opened into a beautiful meadow. Colorful flowers covered the grass. Butterflies danced in the sunshine, and a little waterfall sparkled over smooth stones.
“WOOOOOW!” Timmy exclaimed. Bleu fluttered joyfully. “It’s beautiful!” Sophie bounced in a circle. “BEST TRAIL EVER!”
Ian looked around thoughtfully. “And we reached it by following the directions one step at a time!”
Timmy smiled at Ms. Rose. “You know what? I couldn’t see this place when we started.”
“That’s true,” she replied.
“But I could follow the footprints you showed us. And when we didn’t know which way to go, we stopped and looked for the right direction.”
Ms. Rose nodded. “That’s a wonderful way to remember today’s Scripture. God’s Word gives us truth to live by. We don’t need to know every detail of tomorrow before we can obey what God is teaching us today.”
Timmy looked down at his big elephant feet. “Then I don’t need to see the whole journey to take the next step of faith!”
“Exactly!” Ms. Rose said.
Timmy lifted his trunk high. “Then here’s my new explorer motto! GOD’S WORD LEADS THE WAY, AND I CAN TAKE THE NEXT STEP TODAY!”
Sophie cheered. Bleu twirled. Ian nodded approvingly. “An excellent motto. Very practical!”
Timmy laughed. “And now that we’ve finished the trail, I think it’s time for my emergency banana!”
Everyone giggled. And as the Kingdom Kids enjoyed their beautiful meadow adventure, Timmy carried a wonderful truth in his heart: He didn’t have to know everything that was coming next. He could trust God’s Word, use wisdom, and keep walking by faith in Christ Jesus!
