Bleu and the Song That Traveled Through Safari Forest
It was a beautiful Thursday morning in Safari Forest, and Bleu was fluttering through the sunshine with a song in her heart.
“Good morning, flowers! Good morning, trees! Good morning, beautiful buzzing bees!” She twirled around a bright yellow flower. “WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY TO BE ALIVE!”
A sleepy little squirrel peeked out of his tree. “Bleu,” he yawned, “do you always wake up this happy?”
Bleu giggled. “Well, I haven’t met a morning I couldn’t greet with a little joy!”
She fluttered higher and began singing a cheerful tune: “Step by step, along the way, / God’s Word guides me every day!”
As she flew past the berry bushes, she heard a small voice. “Oh, dear. Oh, dear. I just don’t know.”
Bleu stopped singing. She looked down and spotted a young robin named Ruby sitting beside a little basket of twigs.
“Good morning, Ruby!” Bleu chirped. “What are you working on?”
Ruby sighed. “I’m supposed to help build our family’s new nest. Mama showed me how to weave the twigs together, but mine keeps falling apart.”
Bleu landed gently on a nearby leaf. “Oh! That sounds like something that takes practice.”
Ruby looked at the crooked little bundle of twigs. “I tried three times already. What if I can’t do it?”
Bleu tilted her head. “Have you asked your mama to show you again?”
Ruby shook her head. “She already showed me once. I thought I should know how by now.”
Bleu smiled warmly. “Ruby, learning something new doesn’t mean you have to know everything right away.”
Ruby looked up. “Really?”
“Really! Yesterday, I tried flying backward around a flower.”
Ruby blinked. “Can butterflies do that?”
Bleu giggled. “Apparently, THIS butterfly cannot! I landed in a bush!”
Ruby laughed. Bleu fluttered in a little circle. “But you know what? I learned something from it!”
“What?”
“Next time, I’m going to watch where I’m going!” Both friends burst into laughter.
Then Bleu noticed that Ruby was still looking at her unfinished nest. “Ruby, would you like me to stay while you try again?”
Ruby nodded. “I think I would.”
Bleu settled onto a branch beside her. “Then let’s begin with what your mama taught you.”
Ruby picked up two twigs. She crossed one over the other. Then she tried to tuck a third twig underneath. The twigs slipped. PLOP! They landed in the grass.
Ruby’s wings drooped. “See? I knew it wouldn’t work.”
Bleu leaned forward. “Wait a minute, Ruby. You don’t know that you’ll never learn. You only know that this try didn’t work.”
Ruby looked at the twigs. “I guess that’s true.”
Bleu smiled. “Let’s not decide what you can do based on one little pile of fallen twigs!”
Ruby giggled. “That’s a funny way to say it.”
“But it’s true!” Bleu said. “And I know something else that helps me when I don’t know how everything will turn out.”
“What is it?”
“God’s Word!” Bleu lifted her wings happily. “Ms. Rose has been teaching us a Scripture this week. It’s 2 Corinthians 5:7.”
She said the verse carefully: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Ruby listened. “What does that mean?”
“It means we can trust God and His Word, even when we can’t see or understand everything ahead,” Bleu explained. “And we can take the next wise step using what we’ve learned.”
Ruby looked at her nest. “So I don’t have to know how to build the whole nest perfectly before I try the next twig?”
“Exactly!” Bleu answered. “You can follow your mama’s instructions, ask for help when you need it, and keep learning.”
Ruby smiled a little. “Would you sing that song again?”
Bleu’s eyes sparkled. “OH, WOULD I EVER!”
She stood on the branch and sang: “Step by step, along the way, / God’s Word guides me every day! / I can learn and I can grow, / Trusting God in what I know!”
Ruby began moving her wings to the rhythm. Then she picked up another twig. This time, she tucked it carefully beneath the others. It stayed!
“BLEU! DID YOU SEE THAT?”
Bleu twirled. “I SAW IT! I SAW IT!”
Ruby added another twig. And another. Soon, the little bundle began to hold together.
Just then, Mama Robin returned. “Ruby! Look at what you’ve done!”
Ruby beamed. “I kept trying, Mama! And Bleu stayed with me and helped me remember that I can keep learning!”
Mama Robin smiled. “That’s wonderful, Ruby. And thank you, Bleu, for being such a kind friend.”
Bleu fluttered happily. “Oh, I didn’t build the nest. Ruby did that!”
Ruby shook her head. “But you helped me remember not to give up.”
Bleu thought for a moment. Then she smiled. “That’s what friends are for! We can remind each other of what’s true.”
Later that afternoon, Bleu returned to the Kingdom Kids gathering. Ms. Rose noticed her cheerful humming.
“Bleu, you seem especially joyful today!”
Bleu grinned. “I made a new friend! Her name is Ruby, and she’s learning to build a nest!”
“That sounds lovely,” Ms. Rose said.
“And I got to share our Scripture with her!”
Ms. Rose smiled. “What did you learn from that?”
Bleu fluttered thoughtfully. “I learned that when God’s Word is in my heart, I can share His truth with someone else. I don’t have to fix everything for my friends. Sometimes I can listen, help, and remind them that God is faithful!”
Ms. Rose nodded. “That’s beautiful, Bleu. Encouragement is more than saying something cheerful. It’s speaking truth with love and helping others take wise steps.”
Bleu lifted her wings. “Then I have something to say!”
Timmy grinned. “Is it a song?”
“Maybe!” Bleu replied.
Ian pulled out his notebook. “I am prepared to record it.”
Sophie laughed. “Come on, Bleu! Let’s hear it!”
Bleu declared: “MY WORDS CAN CARRY GOD’S TRUTH, AND MY KINDNESS CAN HELP SOMEONE TAKE THE NEXT STEP!”
The Kingdom Kids cheered. And before long, all of Safari Forest seemed to be humming Bleu’s happy little song: “Step by step, along the way, / God’s Word guides me every day!”
Because that Thursday, Bleu discovered something wonderful: When she filled her heart with God’s Word, she could use her voice and her kindness to help others walk by faith too!
