Week 2: I Don't Have to Be Afraid

Day 14 · Sunday with the Kingdom Kids

When fear or a wrong thought speaks, I know how to answer with God’s Word.

Book connection: Fear Not

Scripture

“Do not fear, for I am with you.”
Isaiah 41:10
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3
“We love, because He first loved us.”
1 John 4:19

One More Morning at Lion’s Rock

The Kingdom Kids gathered at Lion's Rock as the morning sun rose over Safari Forest. For two weeks this had been their place to learn about fear.

Ms. Rose opened her Bible. “Do you remember when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness? The enemy spoke to Jesus and tried to tempt Him. Jesus answered him with God's Word.”

“Jesus didn't agree with the enemy or allow the enemy's words to decide what was true. He answered with what God had said.”

Ms. Rose added, “When a thought comes that doesn't agree with God's Word, we can check it and answer it too. But we must answer with the truth that answers the lie.”

She asked everyone to count to five. They shouted: “ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR! FIVE!”

Then Ms. Rose asked, “What if you answered A, B, C, D, E?” The Kingdom Kids laughed.

“Those are correct letters,” she explained, “but they are not the correct answer to the question I asked. In the same way, a Bible verse can be true without being the verse that answers the thought you're dealing with.”

She wrote: LIE: You are all alone. The Kingdom Kids answered: “Do not fear, for I am with you.” — Isaiah 41:10.

She wrote: LIE: Nobody loves you. Bleu answered: “We love, because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19.

Ms. Rose smiled. “We don't ignore thoughts. We answer them with truth.”

Let's Grow

Thoughts will come. Some agree with God's Word; others do not. We don't automatically accept every thought, and we don't grab just any Bible verse. Ask: What is this thought saying? Does it agree with God's Word? What does God's Word say about THAT? Jesus demonstrated the importance of answering Satan with Scripture in the wilderness. We learn God's Word so the Holy Spirit can bring truth to our remembrance when we need it. We should not assume every anxious, imaginative, or mistaken thought is directly from Satan; the practice is to test thoughts against God's Word and respond with truth.

Think About It

What did you learn about Jesus? What did you learn about fear? What thought have you learned to recognize? What Scripture correctly answers it? What are you doing differently because you've received God's Word?

Prayer

Father, thank You for everything You have taught us through Fear Not. Thank You that Jesus is with us and that fear does not have to lead our lives. Thank You for Your Word so we can know what is true. Holy Spirit, teach us Your Word, help us recognize thoughts that do not agree with it, bring the right Scripture to our remembrance, put Your truth in our hearts and mouths, and help us apply it. Fear is not our leader. Jesus is our Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.

Kingdom Kids Declaration

I receive knowledge. I do not reject it or turn away from it. My heart is open to receive. My mind is ready to be renewed. Holy Spirit, I ask You to help me apply it to my life. Amen.

Now Let's Apply It!

Same story, same truth. Find your level.

  • Little Explorers

    Preschool–Kindergarten

With a grown-up practice matching simple thoughts and truths: “You are all alone.” → “Jesus is with me!” “Nobody loves you.” → “God loved me first!” Then celebrate: “I can learn God's Word!”

  • Trail Adventurers

    Grades 1–2

Make matching cards. On one set write thoughts such as “I'm alone” or “Nobody loves me.” On the other set write the Scriptures that actually answer them. Match each thought to the correct truth, then speak the answers aloud.

  • Expedition Adventurers

    Grades 3–5

Choose one thought. Write: THE THOUGHT — what is it actually saying? THE CHECK — does it agree with God's Word? THE ANSWER — what Scripture specifically addresses it? Then use STOP → CHECK → REMEMBER → SPEAK → APPLY. Begin building a personal Truth Bank organized by the kinds of thoughts each Scripture addresses.
