Week 2: I Don't Have to Be Afraid

Day 13 · Saturday Kingdom Challenge

I can recognize a thought, check it, remember the right Word, speak truth, and apply it.

Book connection: Fear Not

Scripture

“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3

The Fear Not Safari Challenge

The Kingdom Kids arrived at Lion's Rock and found Ms. Rose beside a basket of challenge cards.

“Today you're going to practice everything you've learned about fear,” she said. “Your job isn't to pretend fear isn't there. Your job is to decide what to do when fear shows up.”

The cards included situations such as trying something new and fearing failure, waking at night afraid, and helping a worried friend.

For each situation the Kingdom Kids practiced identifying what the fear was actually saying, checking it against truth, remembering the Word that addressed it, speaking that truth, and choosing a wise action.

Finally Ms. Rose held up a blank card. “This one belongs to you. Think of something you are afraid of. Don't answer somebody else's fear. Practice answering your own.”

Let's Grow

Use the full Kingdom Kids thought-response process: STOP — What thought just came? CHECK — What is this thought actually saying? Does it agree with God's Word? REMEMBER — What does God's Word say about this specific thing? SPEAK — Answer the thought with the truth that addresses it. APPLY — What will I do because I believe God's Word instead? We don't ignore thoughts. We examine them and answer them correctly.

Think About It

Choose one fear or troubling thought. Walk through all five steps. The goal is not to find any Bible verse; it is to find the truth that speaks to what the thought is actually saying.

Prayer

Jesus, You know every fear we carry. Holy Spirit, help us recognize thoughts, check them against God's Word, remember the right truth, speak Your Word with our mouths, and apply it to our lives. Fear is not our leader. Jesus, You are our Lord, and we choose to trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Kingdom Kids Declaration

I receive knowledge. I do not reject it or turn away from it. My heart is open to receive. My mind is ready to be renewed. Holy Spirit, I ask You to help me apply it to my life. Amen.

Now Let's Apply It!

Same story, same truth. Find your level.

  • Little Explorers

    Preschool–Kindergarten

Use five motions with a grown-up: STOP — hand up. CHECK — point to your eyes/head and ask, “What is it saying?” REMEMBER — point to your head: “What does God say about this?” SPEAK — hands by your mouth and say the truth. APPLY — take a step and say, “I will follow Jesus!”

  • Trail Adventurers

    Grades 1–2

Make a Fear Not card: MY THOUGHT / WHAT IS IT SAYING? / GOD'S ANSWER / WHAT I WILL SAY / MY NEXT STEP. Keep it and use it when the thought returns.

  • Expedition Adventurers

    Grades 3–5

For 24 hours practice: STOP — catch the thought. CHECK — identify its claim and whether it agrees with Scripture. REMEMBER — find the Scripture that addresses that claim. SPEAK — answer aloud. APPLY — choose a safe, wise, God-honoring action. Reflect on what the Holy Spirit helped you learn.
