Psalm 56:3

Timmy’s Monday Adventure

Dark clouds were gathering over Safari Forest. BOOM! Thunder rumbled in the distance. Timmy stopped walking. His stomach felt funny and his ears lowered.

“I don't like storms,” Timmy whispered.

He knew Jesus was with him, but he still felt afraid. “If I know Jesus is with me, why am I still scared?”

Timmy hurried beneath a large tree where Ms. Rose was gathering everyone. “I know Jesus is with me... but I'm still afraid.”

Ms. Rose smiled gently. “Trusting Jesus doesn't mean you'll never feel afraid. Fear is something you may feel, but you don't have to let fear become the one telling you what to do.”

She opened her Bible: “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3

Timmy noticed the verse said WHEN, not IF.

He prayed, “Jesus, I'm afraid of this storm. I give this fear to You. Help me trust You.”

The thunder didn't immediately stop. The clouds didn't suddenly disappear. But Timmy wasn't carrying his fear by himself anymore.

“I can feel afraid and still choose to trust Jesus.”

Let's Grow

Psalm 56:3 answers a specific question: “What do I do when I feel afraid?” God's Word answers: “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” Feeling fear doesn't mean you've failed or that you don't trust Jesus. The important question is what you do when fear comes. You can bring what you're feeling to Jesus and choose trust. As we learn more Scripture, we'll learn that different thoughts may need to be answered with different truths from God's Word.

Think About It

Finish: “Jesus, I feel afraid when ______.” Then: “When I am afraid, I will ______.” Psalm 56:3 teaches us to put our trust in God.

Prayer

Jesus, sometimes I feel afraid. Thank You that I don't have to hide my fear from You. When fear comes, help me bring it to You instead of letting it control me. I give You the things I'm afraid of. Holy Spirit, remind me of God's Word and help me choose trust even when I still feel afraid. In Jesus' name, amen.

Kingdom Kids Declaration

I receive knowledge. I do not reject it or turn away from it. My heart is open to receive. My mind is ready to be renewed. Holy Spirit, I ask You to help me apply it to my life. Amen.

Now Let's Apply It!

Same story, same truth. Find your level.

  • Expedition Adventurers

    Grades 3–5

Ask: What am I afraid of? What is fear telling me to do? What does God's Word tell me to do? STOP — recognize fear. REMEMBER — Psalm 56:3. APPLY — What would I do if I chose to trust Jesus instead of letting fear make the decision?
